The advanced PDF viewer

WorkZone includes an embedded PDF viewer which is the default PDF viewer used to display documents as PDF files in WorkZone Client, for example when a user clicks Preview in the Documents detail tab on the case details page.

WorkZone also includes an advanced PDF viewer that uses the PDFTron viewer engine to edit and save changes to PDF documents. The PDFTron viewer engine, a 3^rd party PDF reader and editing program, contains a large set of user-enabled options for editing, annotating and marking PDF documents.

Installation and activation

The PDFTron viewer is installed but not enabled during initial installation of WorkZone. If you want to utilize the PDFTron viewer, you must first enable the program and then adjust the WorkZone Client configurations of those users who are to use the viewer, changing the PDF viewer used in the settings of the Preview pane.

Enabling and disabling the PDFTron viewer

You must be assigned the LICENSEADM access code to enable or disable WorkZone features.

To enable the PDFTron viewer: In WorkZone Configurator > Global tab > Feature settings, select the PDFTron viewer check box.
To disable the PDFTron viewer: In WorkZone Configurator > Global tab > Feature settings, clear the PDFTron viewer check box.
If the standard PDF viewer (the View PDF version pane) was removed from preview pane, the preview pane will be empty when a document is opened in the preview pane. If the standard PDF viewer was not removed from the preview pane, it will be used to preview documents.

Edit the preview pane settings

After the PDFTron viewer has been enabled, it must be made accessible to users in the preview pane. To do this, you must edit the configurations of the users who are to use the PDFTron viewer.

To manage and distribute configurations, you must be assigned the CONFIGADM access code

Open a configuration in editing mode and open the preview pane from the Documents detail tab in the case detail page.
In the preview pane, click configure pane to display to panes: Available panes (the red left hand pane) and the panes currently displayed. (the green right hand pane)
Select the View editable PDF version pane in the Available panes and click select item to add it to the displayed panes.
The View editable PDF version pane contains the PDFTron viewer and editing options and is only accessible if the PDFTron viewer has been enabled in WorkZone Configurator.
(Optional) Drag the View editable PDF version pane to a new location in the displayed panes.

Make PDFTron the default PDF reader/viewer

In the preview pane, drag the View editable PDF version pane to a location above the View PDF version pane to make the PDFTron viewer the default PDF reader/viewer.

Users can still access the View PDF version pane if as long as the pane is still available in the preview pane.

Restore the standard PDF viewer as the default PDF reader/viewer

Drag the View PDF version pane to a location above the View editable PDF version pane to make the standard WorkZone PDF viewer the default PDF reader/viewer.

Users can still access the View editable PDF version pane as long as the pane is still available in the preview pane.
