About case activities

Case activities is a task management feature. It enables you to create workflows with activities that are connected by a set of rules. Working with case activities includes the following steps:

  1. You design DCR processes on the DCR Portal and export them as XML files. For information about creating DCR processes, see the DCR documentation and About case activities in the WorkZone Process Administrator Guide.
  2. In WorkZone Configurator, you create a new case activity. To do this, you upload the XML file and configure other settings. See Create a case activity.
  3. In WorkZone Client, users can select an activity list and perform activities. See Work with case activities in the WorkZone Client User Guide.

Create a case activity

  1. On the main page, select Process.
  2. On the Case activities tab, in the bottom-right corner of the page, click Create.
  3. Fill in the following fields in the Create case activity dialog:

    • DCR process – Import the DCR process that you have designed and exported from DCR Portal in XML format.
    • Name from graph – The name of the case activity that is visible for WorkZone Client users.
    • Description from graph – Description of the case activity that is visible for WorkZone Configurator users.
    • Localize name and description – Optionally, specify names and descriptions in other languages.
    • Start date –  The date when the case activity becomes active visible in the user interface.
    • End date – The date when the case activity is deactivated. After the end date, the case activity becomes invisible in the user interface.
    • Access code – Click to apply access codes that definee who can start the case activity on a case. If you leave the field empty, everyone who has access to a case can start the case activity.
  4. Click Create.
Note: Once you click Create, you cannot delete the case activity

Edit a case activity

  1. Point to the case activity that you want to edit. A menu bar with action buttons appears.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Apply the required changes in the Edit case activity dialog.
Note: You cannot edit the Name from graph and Description from graph values.
  4. Click Save.

View metadata for a DCR Process

You can view information about the imported DCR process such as the DCR process ID, when the DCR process was revised and by who, whether it is major or minor revision, revision comments, and more. You can, for example, use this information to verify that you have imported the correct version of a DCR process after making changes to it in DCR Portal.

  1. Open the Create case activity dialog.

  2. Expanding the DCR process metadata section.

After adding a new or changed DCR process file, you must save the changes to the case activity before you can view the metadata.

View case activities

To view the list of available case activities, click Process on the start page. Besides the settings that you configure when you add a case activity, you also see two additional columns:

Download a DCR process file

You can download the DCR process file (XML file) that a case activity is based on. This can be useful, if you want to edit a DCR process, but you cannot locate the DCR process in DCR Portal. You can then download the DCR file from WorkZone Configurator and edit the XML file directly in an editor or import it in to DCR Portal for editing.

  1. Point to the case activity which DCR process file you want to download. A menu bar with action buttons appears.
  2. Click Download to view the DCR process file in XML format.
  3. Click Export to download the XML the file.
